Nestled in the heart of the Elgin Valley, Errigal Farm stands as a beacon of agricultural heritage and sustainable living. With its roots stretching back to the early-1900s, this 100-hectare fruit farm has evolved from a humble beginning into a flourishing estate, renowned for its high-quality produce and commitment to the land.
The farm's journey into the modern era began in 2013 when Lowry and Babette Craig took the reins. Lowry, an ex-veterinarian from Raphoe in Ireland, has always harbored a deep love for space, nature, trees, views, and antiques, coupled with an enthusiasm for embracing challenges. His wife, Babette, hailing from Zimbabwe, and having met Lowry while studying linguistics at Trinity College Dublin, shared his vision. After spending 40 years in the west rand of Johannesburg where they ran a very successful veterinary practice and kennels in between raising three strongly charactered boys, the couple decided to embark on a new adventure to a place they loved, Elgin in the Western Cape.
Upon acquiring the farm, then known as Arumdale, Lowry and Babette faced a daunting task. The property was in a state of neglect, requiring extensive renovation and revitalization. Undeterred, they spent four years refurbishing the manor house and a decade restoring the land to productivity. Their efforts have transformed Errigal Farm into a magical piece of land, which is now ready to be shared with the world.
As Lowry famously says ‘ You just can’t rush these things!”
“The Western Cape is one of the great places of the world, and we are so blessed to call this farm home.
We look forward to sharing it with you for generations to come.”

Today, Errigal Farm is a bustling working fruit farm, producing export-grade apples and pears, such as Pink Lady, Fuji, Rosy Glow, Packhams, and many others. The farm also cultivates world-class Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc grapes which have produced some of the most prestigious wines in the Western Cape and most recently, our olive oil won gold at the Aurora Taste Challenge. Sourced from Frantoio and Leccino olive trees, originally from Perugia, Italy, and nurtured in Elgin's fertile soil and crisp air, our small-batch oil embodies the essence of quality.
Farming is far from a simple endeavor; it is a complex tapestry of challenges and triumphs, woven together by the unyielding dedication of those who work the land. Our journey has been made possible through the unwavering commitment of our team of staff and consultants. Each day, they bring their expertise, resilience, and passion to our fields, enabling us to weather numerous storms and overcome myriad obstacles. It is through their collective efforts that Errigal Farm has transformed from a vision into a thriving reality.
Their hard work and perseverance have been the cornerstone of our progress, guiding us through difficult times and leading us to the fruitful and prosperous point we are at today. Their contribution is not just in labor but in the invaluable knowledge and experience they bring, making them integral to the heart and soul of Errigal Farm.
Each vine and tree at Errigal Farm tells
a story of perseverance and passion.

At Errigal, we are committed to creating a thriving multigenerational estate, retreat space, and working farm that preserves the sustenance of both our family and the many other families who work with and live on the farm.

We strive to provide a farm-to-table home away from home. A place to rest and restore. A place to slow down and reconnect with the land. A place to retreat within and with your family and friends. A place to reconnect with the cycles of nature, the land and the way we produce our food.
